숨결 속에 깃든 경외

인간은 걷고, 말하고, 보고, 듣고, 숨을 쉬며 살아간다. 그러나 이 모든 것은 너무나 일상적이어서, 우리는 그 속에 담긴 신비를 잊어버린다. 숨을 쉰다는 것은 단순한 생리적 행위가 아니다. 그것은 우주가 내 안에서 다시 시작되는 사건이며, 신의 숨결이 내 폐부 깊숙이 닿아오는 은총의 현현이다.

그럼에도 불구하고 인간은 그것을 당연히 여긴다. 숨을 쉬는 순간조차 감사하지 않고, 일상을 살아가는 그 자체의 고귀함을 망각한다. 그러나 소요 존재윤리학은 선언한다.

“숨을 쉬는 자, 그 자체로 감사와 경외의 존재이다.”

자유의지의 오해와 인간의 착각

인간은 자유의지를 마치 자기 소유인 듯 생각한다. 원하면 무엇이든 할 수 있고, 선택할 수 있으며, 자신의 삶을 스스로 정의한다고 믿는다. 그러나 그 자유의지는 결코 무한하지 않다. 그것은 지상적 시간성 안에서만 작동하며, 결국 사라지는 선택일 뿐이다.

자유의지를 절대화하는 순간, 인간은 스스로를 신격화한다. 그러나 그 자유는 한계에 부딪힌다. 죽음 앞에서 무너지고, 고통 앞에서 흔들리며, 양심 앞에서 멈춘다. 결국 인간은 깨닫게 된다. 자유의지는 내가 가진 것이 아니라, 나를 초월하는 무엇이 이미 내 안에 거하고 있는 흔적임을.

자유의지 안에 숨은 신의 침묵

자유와 윤리의 새로운 정의

우리는 흔히 자유를 “무엇이든 할 수 있는 권리”라고 이해한다. 그러나 존재윤리학의 시선에서 자유는 옳고 그름의 규정이 아니라 방향이다. 자유의지는 나의 존재를 어디로 향하게 할 것인가를 묻는 자리이다. 그리고 그 방향은 죽음으로 향할 수도, 영원으로 향할 수도 있다.

Awe Hidden in the Breath

Human beings walk, speak, see, hear, and breathe. Yet because these acts are so ordinary, we forget the mystery within them. Breathing is not a mere biological function it is the event of the universe beginning anew within me, the grace of God’s breath reaching the depths of my lungs.

And yet humanity takes it for granted. Even in the very act of breathing, we fail to give thanks, and we neglect the nobility of life itself. But Soyo’s Existence Ethics declares

“Whoever breathes is, by that very fact, a being of gratitude and reverence.”

The Misunderstanding of Free Will and the Illusion of Humanity

Human beings imagine that free will belongs to them. They believe they can do anything they want, choose whatever they desire, and define their own lives. But free will is never infinite. It functions only within earthly temporality, and every choice eventually disappears into nothingness.

When free will is absolutized, humanity deifies itself. But that freedom always collides with its limits, collapsing before death, trembling before suffering, and halting before conscience. At last, humanity realizes: free will is not something I possess, but a trace of something transcendent already dwelling within me.

God’s Silence Hidden in Free Will

Humans may choose. Yet at every moment of choice, they encounter the stirring of conscience. This stirring is not mere social conditioning, nor is it a psychological reflex. It is the silent cry of God inscribed deep within human existence.

God has given free will to humanity, but within that freedom, He engraved His own tears and His own love. Thus, no matter how freely one wishes to live, the thread of conscience cannot be severed. It is not bound by human hands but tied directly by God to the human heart.

A New Definition of Freedom and Ethics

We often define freedom as “the right to do anything.” But from the perspective of Existential Ethics, freedom is not the regulation of right and wrong; it is direction. Free will is the moment that asks, "Where will I set my existence toward? And that direction may lead toward death or toward eternity."

Therefore, ethics is not merely a matter of rules or laws. Ethics is the living breath of life that awakens when human free will meets divine free will. Ethics is not a code in a book, but a flowing river of conscience in this present breath, in this very moment of life.

Freedom That Lives Eternity

When human free will meets God’s free will, the ethics of life are resurrected. In that meeting, humanity is revealed not merely as a finite chooser but as a being that lives eternity. The body may return to dust, yet free will and conscience, held within the love of God, bear witness to eternity.

This is the essence of freedom as taught by Soyo’s Existence Ethics. Freedom is not a right that collapses before death; it is love that rises before God. Freedom is not simply living as I wish, but the proof that in God’s breath, my existence lives eternally.

A Declaration of Existential Ethics

Therefore, Soyo’s Existence Ethics declares:

Free will is not humanity’s independent possession, but the trace of grace planted by God.

Ethics is not a human-made set of rules, but rather the living life that awakens when free will encounters God. Humanity is not a finite being marching toward death, but an eternal witness who cannot die within the love of God.
