정치적 불신의 연속과 인간 존재의 피로

한국 사회는 오랜 세월 정치적 불신의 연속 속에 놓여왔다. 권력이 교체될 때마다 되풀이되는 정쟁, 진영을 가르는 극단의 언어, 그리고 국민 삶과는 멀어진 권력의 계산은 결국 보수와 진보의 양극화라는 극한의 대립으로 귀결되었다. 이러한 대립 속에서 정책은 언제나 파편화되고, 합의는 무너지고, 국민은 하루하루 더 지쳐간다.

정책은 제도로 구현되지만, 제도는 곧 인간의 삶을 지탱하는 울타리다. 그러나 한국의 오늘은 제도의 울타리조차 흔들리고 있는 현실에 직면해 있다. 정치가 제도화된 불신으로 굳어지고, 국민은 불안 속에 자신들의 존재 가치가 무시되는 상황을 목도한다. 이 불신은 곧 남북의 군사적 긴장으로 이어져, 아직도 분간 중인 신뢰 부족의 상태 속에서 전쟁과 평화 사이의 불안정한 줄타기가 계속되고 있다. 정치가 인간을 위한 언어라면, 지금의 정치 언어는 인간의 피로와 불안을 더 심화시키는 소음일 뿐이다.

경제의 회복과 붕괴 사이에서

겉으로는 반도체와 AI 산업의 회복세가 국가 경제를 지탱하는 듯 보인다. 그러나 그 속을 들여다보면, 미국의 관세 정책이 언제든 이 회복세를 둔화시킬 수 있는 변수로 남아 있다. 세계 경제의 거대한 파도 속에서 한국은 언제든 다시 휘청거릴 수 있는 불안정한 뗏목에 불과하다.

더 큰 문제는 국내의 구조적 취약성이다. 이미 가계부채는 천정을 뚫어 세계 최상위 수준에 달했고, 소득에 비해 과도한 대출 구조는 금융 시스템 전체의 안정을 위협하고 있다. 국민 개개인이 빚으로 버티며 살아가는 이 구조는 단순한 경제 문제가 아니라 존재의 위기다. 인간이 경제를 지탱하는 주체가 아니라, 경제 시스템에 포획되어 그저 부채의 인질로 살아가게 될 때, 삶은 더 이상 자유가 아닌 구속으로 전락한다.

청년 세대는 노동시장의 약화 속에서 미래의 설계도 자체를 잃어버린 세대가 되었다. 일자리는 불안정하고, 꿈은 가계부채와 주거비 앞에 좌절되며, 이는 장기적으로 한국 경제의 성장 잠재력을 고갈시키는 치명적 위기가 된다. 경제는 단순한 지표가 아니라 한 세대의 눈물과 고통, 그리고 살아낼 이유와 연결되어 있다. 그 연결이 끊어진 곳에서 어떤 정책도 인간에게 희망을 주지 못한다.

노동과 노조, 분열의 그림자

노동 현장 또한 갈등의 늪에서 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 노란봉투법은 노동자의 권리를 지키려는 시도이자 동시에 사용자와 경영계의 반발을 불러오는 법안이다. 노사의 불안정은 이미 사회적 구조 전체에 불편을 안겨주고 있고, 산업별 분쟁은 국민 일상에 직접적인 고통으로 다가온다.

문제는 법의 내용만이 아니다. 노사 간 신뢰 부재, 사회적 대화의 붕괴야말로 한국 노동문제의 근본이다. 파업과 규제, 충돌과 타협 없는 강행은 결국 민생의 불안과 국가 생산성의 추락으로 이어질 뿐이다. 노동이 인간의 삶을 지탱하는 본질이라면, 지금의 노동 현실은 인간을 지탱하기보다 인간을 갈라놓는 구조로 작동하고 있다.

인간 존재의 가치가 무너질 때

이 모든 문제들의 공통된 뿌리는 무엇인가. 정치의 불신, 경제의 부채, 노동의 분열, 사회의 불안 이것들이 모여 결국 인간 존재의 가치를 무너뜨리고 있다는 사실이다. 국민이 더 이상 존재로서 존중받지 못하고, 단지 통계와 제도의 수치로만 환원될 때, 한 사회는 본질을 잃는다.

인간은 숫자가 아니다. 그러나 한국 사회는 점점 GDP, 고용률, 부채비율이라는 숫자로만 인간을 규정한다. 정치적 정쟁은 국민을 ‘진영의 도구’로 만들고, 경제는 국민을 ‘부채의 단위’로 환원하며, 노동은 국민을 ‘파업과 갈등의 집계’로만 다룬다. 그 사이에서 인간은 존재로서의 의미를 잃고, 겨우 숨쉬는 존재로만 남아 있다.

소요 명제의 선언

“인간을 위한 정책이 인간을 떠나 시스템의 일부로 흡수되는 시대, 모두가 잘살기를 바라는 국가는 오히려 가장 큰 모순이다. 정치는 고비를 넘는 과정이어야 하지만, 오늘 그것은 ‘관세공화국’과 ‘당쟁공화국’으로 전락했다. 그 안에서 인간은 겨우 숨 쉬는 존재로만 남아 있다.”

존재윤리학은 외친다. 인간 존재의 존귀함이 회복되지 않는 한, 어떠한 성장도, 어떠한 안정도, 어떠한 법도 진정한 의미를 가질 수 없다. 정치와 경제, 노조와 사회는 모두 결국 인간 존재라는 토양 위에 뿌리내릴 때에만 살아 있는 숲이 된다.

한국은 지금 “관세공화국과 당쟁공화국”의 늪에서 인간존재의 가치를 다시 일으켜 세우는 과제를 맡고 있다. 소요 존재윤리학은 그것이 단순한 정치적 과제가 아니라, 시대적·철학적 사명임을 증언한다.

Korean society has been mired in political distrust for many years. Every time power changes hands, political strife repeats itself, extreme language divides camps, and power calculations detached from the lives of the people ultimately lead to the extreme polarization of conservatives and progressives. In this context, policies are always fragmented, consensus collapses, and the people grow more exhausted with each passing day.

Policies are implemented through institutions, but institutions are the very framework that sustains human life. Yet today, South Korea faces a reality where even the framework of institutions is shaking. Politics has hardened into institutionalized distrust, and citizens witness their existence being disregarded amid uncertainty. This distrust directly fuels military tensions between the North and South, perpetuating an unstable balancing act between war and peace in a state of ongoing trust deficit. If politics is the language of humanity, then the language of politics today is nothing more than noise that intensifies human fatigue and anxiety.

Between Economic Recovery and Collapse

On the surface, the recovery of the semiconductor and AI industries appears to be sustaining the national economy. However, looking deeper, US tariff policies remain a variable that could slow down this recovery at any time. Amidst the huge waves of the global economy, South Korea is nothing more than an unstable raft that could be rocked at any moment.

The bigger problem is the structural vulnerability within the country. Household debt has already skyrocketed to one of the highest levels in the world, and excessive lending relative to income threatens the stability of the entire financial system. This structure, in which every citizen lives on debt, is not a simple economic problem but a crisis of existence. When humans are no longer the mainstay of the economy but are trapped in the economic system and live as hostages to debt, life is no longer freedom but bondage.

The younger generation has lost sight of their future amid a weakening labor market. Jobs are unstable, dreams are dashed by household debt and housing costs, and this poses a fatal threat to the long-term growth potential of the Korean economy. The economy is not merely a set of indicators; it is connected to the tears and suffering of a generation, and to their reasons for living. Where that connection is severed, no policy can offer hope to people.

Labor, Unions, and the Shadow of Division

The labor scene also remains mired in conflict. The Yellow Envelope Law is an attempt to protect workers' rights, but it has also sparked opposition from employers and management. Labor-management instability is already causing discomfort throughout the social structure, and industrial disputes are directly affecting the daily lives of citizens.

The problem is not merely the content of the law. The absence of trust between labor and management and the collapse of social dialogue are the root causes of South Korea's labor issues. Strikes, regulations, conflicts, and the forced implementation of policies without compromise will ultimately lead to instability in people's lives and a decline in national productivity. If labor is the essence that sustains human life, the current labor reality is functioning as a structure that divides people rather than sustaining them.

When the Value of Human Existence Collapses

What is the common root of all these problems? Political distrust, economic debt, labor division, and social unrest all come together to ultimately destroy the value of human existence. When citizens are no longer respected as individuals, but are reduced to mere statistics and figures in the system, a society loses its essence.

Humans are not numbers. However, Korean society increasingly defines people solely by numbers such as GDP, employment rates, and debt ratios. Political disputes turn citizens into “tools of political camps,” the economy reduces citizens to “units of debt,” and labor treats citizens as mere “aggregates of strikes and conflicts.” In the midst of this, people lose their meaning as beings and are left to barely survive.

Declaration of the Thesis

“In an era where policies for humans are absorbed into the system, a nation that desires prosperity for all is the greatest contradiction. Politics should be a process of overcoming challenges, but today it has degenerated into a ‘tariff republic’ and a ‘party strife republic.’ Within this system, humans are reduced to mere breathing beings.”

This proposition is not a simple criticism, but a mirror reflecting the reality facing Korean society today. The customs republic symbolizes an economic system that prioritizes commodities and profits over people, while the party strife republic symbolizes a political system that prioritizes political factions and power over people. Between them, people are barely breathing.

The Task of Existential Ethics

Existential ethics poses these questions in the face of this reality: “Why do humans exist? For whom are politics and economics intended?” The answer is clear. Politics, economics, and labor should all be means for human existence. However, in today's Korea, human existence has been reduced to a means for politics and economics. This is precisely why Korea now stands once again at the crossroads of ideology.

Existential ethics proclaims that without the restoration of the dignity of human existence, no growth, no stability, and no law can have true meaning. Politics, economics, labor unions, and society all become a living forest only when they are rooted in the soil of human existence.
