권력은 누구의 산물인가?

푸코는 권력을 개인이 소유하는 대상이 아니라, 사회 전반에 흐르는 관계적 구조로 보았다. 학교, 감옥, 병원, 군대와 같은 제도들은 단순한 장치가 아니라 인간을 규율하고 길들이는 미시적 권력의 장이었다.

그러나 여기에는 여전히 질문이 남는다. 그 구조를 설계한 것은 누구인가? 사회적 구조는 스스로 태어난 것이 아니라 인간의 선택과 의지 속에서 형성되었다. 그 배경에는 언제나 지배하고자 하는 욕망이 깔려 있었다. 따라서 권력은 단순한 추상적 구조가 아니라, 인간 욕망이 제도 속에 반영된 얼굴이라 할 수 있다.

권력의 단순한 본질

푸코는 권력을 복잡한 담론의 망 속에서 이해하려 했으나, 소요 존재윤리학은 권력의 본질이 오히려 단순하다고 말한다. 권력은 한 가지 단순한 의지에서 비롯된다.

지배하려는 인간의 욕망.

이 욕망이 제도 속에 흘러들어가면 학교에서는 서열이 되고, 정치에서는 계급이 되며, 경제에서는 착취가 된다. 권력은 제도의 옷을 입고 교묘히 작동하지만, 본질적으로는 지배를 향한 욕망에 뿌리를 둔다.

권력과 교육, 그리고 물질

소요 존재윤리학은 권력이 교육과 물질의 구조 속에서 재생산되는 과정을 지적한다.

1.교육은 서열을 만든다.

시험과 학위는 인간을 점수로 구분하며, 존재의 존엄을 순위로 환원한다.

2.엘리트 구조는 차별을 고착시킨다.

엘리트는 지배의 무대에 오르고, 비엘리트는 “열등”이라는 낙인을 감내한다.

3.물질은 권력과 결탁한다.

권력은 물질적 독점과 함께 인간을 나눈다.

이와 같은 결탁은 단순한 담론 생산으로 설명되지 않는다. 권력은 현실 속에서 구체적으로 인간 존재를 구분하고 억압한다.

소요 존재윤리학의 대안

푸코가 권력을 “관계”로 설명했듯, 그의 통찰은 분명 의미가 있다. 그러나 소요 존재윤리학은 그 관계의 바탕에 인간의 욕망이 있음을 강조한다. 권력은 추상이 아니라 욕망이다. 권력은 단순하다. 그리고 그것은 지금 이 순간에도 인간을 갈라놓는 현실이다.

따라서 권력을 극복하는 길은 새로운 담론을 만드는 학문적 시도가 아니라, 깨어 있는 인간 존재들의 윤리적 실천이다. 우리가 침묵할 때 권력은 강화되지만, 우리가 윤리와 사랑으로 깨어 있을 때 권력은 무너진다.

What is power the product of?

Foucault viewed power not as something possessed by individuals, but as a relational structure that flows throughout society. Institutions such as schools, prisons, hospitals, and the military are not mere devices, but micro-power structures that regulate and discipline humans.

However, questions remain. Who designed these structures? Social structures did not arise spontaneously but were formed through human choice and will. Behind them always lay the desire to dominate. Therefore, power is not a simple abstract structure but the face of human desire reflected in institutions.

The simple essence of power

Foucault sought to understand power within a complex web of discourse, but existential ethics argues that the essence of power is actually simple. Power stems from a single simple desire.

The human desire to dominate

When this desire flows into institutions, it becomes hierarchy in schools, class in politics, and exploitation in economics. Power operates subtly under the guise of institutions, but its essence is rooted in the desire to dominate.

Power, Education, and Material Wealth

The ethics of existence points out the process by which power is reproduced within the structures of education and material.

1. Education creates hierarchy.

Exams and degrees divide people into scores, reducing the dignity of existence to rankings.

2. The elite structure solidifies discrimination.

The elite ascend to the stage of domination, while the non-elite endure the stigma of “inferiority.”

3. Material is collusive with power.

Power divides people through material monopoly. Such collusion cannot be explained simply as discourse production. Power concretely distinguishes and oppresses human beings in reality.

The Alternative of Existential Ethics

Just as Foucault explained power as a “relationship,” his insight is clearly meaningful. However, existential ethics emphasizes that human desire is the basis of that relationship.

Power is not an abstraction, but desire. Power is simple. And it is the reality that divides humans even now.

Therefore, the way to overcome power is not through academic attempts to create new discourse, but through the ethical practice of awakened human beings. When we remain silent, power is strengthened, but when we are awake with ethics and love, power collapses.
